Juniper Tincture from the Zlatibor Mountains
Juniper tincture is a natural herbal preparation made from the berries of the juniper shrub, Juniperus communis. Juniper berries and extracts of the plant have long been part of herbal medicine. They are traditionally used as a diuretic, as an antiseptic, and to support the kidneys and urinary tract, digestion and the body’s own cleansing. In the Balkans, kleka has been part of folk medicine for generations.
This tincture is extracted in alcohol to keep the plant’s active compounds, so a few drops in water carry the full strength of the berry.
What Juniper Is Traditionally Used For
- Kidneys and urinary tract – traditionally used as a natural diuretic, to help the body flush out toxins and release excess water.
- Digestion – traditionally used to stimulate digestion and ease bloating, for a lighter stomach after meals.
- Cleansing – associated with supporting the liver and the body’s natural detox processes.
- Circulation and joints – in herbal tradition used to support blood flow and to ease swelling, and historically for stiff joints.
- Natural defenses – the berries are rich in antioxidants, which protect cells from damage.
From the Zlatibor Mountains, by Hand
The juniper grows wild in the untouched Zlatibor Mountains, far from industrial pollution, in pure mountain air and mineral-rich soil never treated with pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Every step is done by hand, from choosing the ripest berries to the final preparation, so the full spectrum of the plant’s compounds stays in every bottle.
How to Use Juniper Tincture
Juniper tincture is for those who want to support the urinary tract, improve digestion or help the body’s natural cleansing, for example as a seasonal cleanse. Take 10 to 15 drops diluted in water, 2 to 3 times a day, best before meals. Use for 3 weeks, then take a 1-week break before continuing. While using it, eat balanced meals and drink enough water to support the kidneys.
Precautions: Not for pregnant or breastfeeding women. If you have kidney disease, a tendency to kidney stones, low blood pressure or diabetes, consult a healthcare provider first. Juniper may interact with diuretics, blood sugar lowering medication and blood pressure medication, so always consult a professional if you take prescription medication. Do not combine with other strong diuretics, as too much fluid may be lost. Some people may experience mild digestive discomfort, an allergic reaction or changes in blood pressure.
