White Sage for Smudging and Cleansing

White sage, Salvia apiana, grows wild across the dry hills and deserts of California. Our white sage is wildcrafted from native plants. For centuries it has been burned as incense and in smudge pots for ceremony.

• A dense, gray-white leaf with a strong, characteristic scent – bitter and full, close to Mediterranean herbs.
• The herb behind smudging – among Native American tribes it is considered sacred, burned to cleanse people and spaces of negative energy.
• Traditionally used to purify the air – leaves were burned to clean a home after illness, and today many burn it before meditation or to clear unwanted odors.

How to Smudge with White Sage

Light the tip of a few leaves or a bundle, let the flame catch, then blow it out so the leaves smoulder. Carry the smoke slowly through the room, or around yourself, with a clear intention. Let it go out in a heat-proof bowl.

For a softer, sweeter smoke, many alternate white sage with štapići palo santa.
