Latin name: Protium crassipetalum
Also known as: Gold copal
A fine, citrusy forest scent with a balsamic warmth: gold copal is the copal for creative and intuitive work.
Gold Copal Incense
Gold copal is the resin of Protium crassipetalum, from the Burseraceae family, the same family as palo santo and frankincense. The aroma recalls pine forest, with a bright citrus top note. Copal has been burned in ceremony since ancient times for protection, healing and initiation.
- Fine, slightly citrusy forest fragrance – lighter and brighter than white copal.
- Traditionally associated with imagination, intuition and creativity – a resin for writing, making art or sitting in meditation.
- Calming and grounding – burned for protection in ceremony, refreshing without being sharp.
How to Burn Gold Copal
- Light a charcoal disc for about 20 seconds until it catches. Hold it with tongs, never with your fingers.
- Set it on sand or soil in a heat-proof bowl and wait a few minutes, until the edges turn grey.
- Place a small piece of resin on top and let the smoke rise. Add more as it fades.
For a sweeter, creamier smoke, try white copal.
