Among the sacred medicines of the Yawanawá, rapé has a central place. They call it Rumé, or Rumã, and it is one of their main preparations for power.

Yawanawa Rapé, Tsunu

The Yawanawá hold a deep knowledge of their shamanic system, kept by their initiates and shamans. The study of their spirituality begins with prayer and diet, and intense initiations mark the way. Rapé carries an ancestral legacy of healing that has existed, as their stories tell, since time immemorial.

Yawanawá Tsunu has an uplifting and clearing frequency, with strong feminine qualities. It is a blend for balancing energies and for finding healing and grounding. The eyes will usually water, and the powder clears from the nose much more easily than most other blends: it is very finely ground and absorbs almost directly. Subtly powerful, it is a favorite among regular users of traditional rapé.

Where This Rapé Comes From

In 2019 Ivan was initiated into the Yawanawá community by Maestre Waxy Yawanawá and became a Maestro of rapé medicine, after a month in deep forest without water. This rapé comes through that relationship.

The Yawanawá (yawa, white-lipped peccary; nawa, people) belong to the Pano language family and live on the Gregório River Indigenous Land. Their community is a meeting of peoples: Shawãdawa (Arara), Iskunawa, today known as Shanênawa, Rununawa, Sainawa and Katukina, brought together through marriage, migration and history, an alliance common to many Pano groups.

Receive it seated, with an intention, using a kuripe for yourself or a tepi when someone serves you. Read more about the Yawanawá people and about what rapé is.
