Myrrh Resin from Arabia

True myrrh is the resin of Commiphora myrrha, a small tree of three to four meters that grows in the desert regions of the Arabian Peninsula. It is related to frankincense and was once worth its weight in gold.

  • Warm balsamic scent, musky-sweet with a bitter edge – a deep smoke that lifts the mood of a room.
  • One of the oldest medicinal resins – used as a remedy for over 3,000 years and traditionally valued for its antimicrobial qualities, which is why its smoke is considered cleansing.
  • Traditionally a sacred smoke – uplifting and purifying, burned to shift the atmosphere of a space before meditation or ceremony.

How to Burn Myrrh

  1. Light a charcoal disc for about 20 seconds until it catches. Hold it with tongs, never with your fingers.
  2. Set it on sand or soil in a heat-proof bowl and wait a few minutes, until the edges turn grey.
  3. Place a small piece of resin on top and let the smoke rise. Add more as it fades.

Its softer, sweeter cousin is opopanax, also called sweet myrrh.

Not food grade. Not intended for consumption.
