Black Dammar Resin Incense
Black dammar is the resin of Canarium strictum, a tree from India. There it is known as black dhup, dhup being the word for incense burned at home and in ritual. It is the darker counterpart to white dammar.
- A dark resin from India – for those who prefer a deeper smoke than the light, lemony white dammar.
- Burned as dhup – part of the Indian tradition of resin incense for home and ritual.
How to Burn Black Dammar
- Light a charcoal disc for about 20 seconds until it catches. Hold it with tongs, never with your fingers.
- Set it on sand or soil in a heat-proof bowl and wait a few minutes, until the edges turn grey.
- Place a small piece of resin on top and let the smoke rise. Add more as it fades.
For a lighter, brighter smoke, try white dammar.
